Teach-out
Options
Dear CEIG Student:
The New York State Education Department along with CEIG is hoping to make the transition in your education as smooth as possible during this difficult time. Toward this end, we want to let you know what your options are under the Education Law.
Option 1: Participate in a Teach-out: We have appealed to other schools and asked them to help out during this difficult time. Fortunately, a few schools have graciously come forward and offered their assistance and want to extend an invitation to you to continue your education at their facility. Below you will find a list of schools, their address, telephone number, name of a contact person, and the program they can teach-out. Please keep the following points in mind in considering attending a teach-out school.
There is no extra cost to you as the student. Even if the teach-out school has a higher tuition than CEIG, you may continue your education at their school at no additional cost to you. You are only responsible for the balance of the tuition you would have paid to CEIG or would have been paid on your behalf. Additionally, the teach-out school will make an assessment of where you are in the program and what you have learned at CEIG and place you into a comparable program, if not the same program, at the school. Should you decide to take the teach-out you can give the new school a try for one week of instruction. If you decide at the end of the week you are not happy or do not wish to continue you can still apply for Option 2. We encourage you to think seriously about this option and continue your education at one of the schools listed below.

Option 2: A Refund of all pre-paid tuition: CEIG is a licensed proprietary school and thus the money you paid or was paid out on your behalf is protected. If you choose not to participate in the teach-out you are entitled to receive a refund of any pre-paid tuition. If you personally paid your own tuition, then the refund will be sent to you. If the money was paid out on your behalf from a lending institution (such as in the form of a loan), then the lending institution will receive a refund. However, should you choose this option it is important that you realize that you will not be able to receive a transcript, not now and not ever. Choosing this option basically means that your experience at CEIG never happened. You will not get any advanced standing for the time you spent at CEIG and what you have learned thus far if you choose to attend another school at some later point. In order to receive the refund, you must fill out a complaint form (BPSS-154) if you have not already done so. It has been attached with this letter for your convenience. You may also download and print it from the Proprietary School Supervision’s website at www.highered.nysed.gov/bpss.
We encourage you to review both options and discuss it with your family. Whatever your decision, we wish you good luck in all your future endeavors.
If you are an I-20 student, we recommend you contact the Student and Exchange Visitors Program/School Certification Branch (Department of Homeland Security) immediately at 202-305-2346 or send an email message to sevis.source@dhs.gov so they can advise you on your Visa status.
Sincerely,
The Representatives of the New York State Education
