Content Specialty Tests (CSTs), Educating All Students test (EAS), and edTPA Safety Nets

Exam safety nets are available for specific Content Specialty Tests (CSTs) external website, the Educating All Students (EAS) test external website, and the edTPA.

Content Specialty Tests (CSTs)

  • Redeveloped CSTs operational in Fall 2016. The CST safety net allows candidates to take either the current (redeveloped) CST or the safety net (predecessor) CST external websiteuntil June 30, 2019 in the following subject areas: American Sign Language, Cantonese, English as a Second Language (ESOL), French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Mandarin, Russian, Social Studies, and Spanish. 

Educating All Students (EAS) Test

  • The passing score for the EAS test external website is 520. The EAS test safety net is a passing score of 500. Candidates who earn a score between 500 and 519 will automatically receive the safety net and will see a passing score for the test in TEACH.

Applying for the Safety Net

Candidates can apply for the safety net after completing the above requirements by sending an email to examsafetynet@nysed.gov with their first and last name as is appears in their TEACH account, the last four digits of their social security number, the date of birth, and a request that the safety net be applied. The Office of Teaching Initiatives will then review the request.
